Honors

Tonaquint Intermediate School

2019-2020  7th Grade English Language Arts Honors Program

The ELA Honors Program is designed to challenge students in the subject of Language Arts by expanding each student’s knowledge through extensive reading and writing. This class is characterized by:
  • A strong emphasis on writing (creating the school newspaper, writing contests, personal website, etc.)
  • More outside-of-classroom reading (12 books a trimester requirement)
  • Greater demands for analytical thinking, creativity, and problem solving
  • Willingness to participate in classroom discussions and collaborative projects
Acceptance into the Honors program is based on sixth-grade teacher recommendations, a writing sample, school attendance, and a Reading Benchmark score.  The writing sample will be evaluated to determine if the prospective honors student is prepared to meet the rigorous writing expectations.

Applications are due on Friday, May 3. Late applications will not be considered.

Once selections have been finalized, parents and students will receive an email stating whether they were accepted into the program or not.
